Hi SMS community!  Thank you all for being contributing members to this very important developmental stage in our children's lives.  Early adolescence is a time of huge change and growth in our identities.  We, as the adults in the lives of young people, have the opportunity to help them develop their sense of self.  Middle school students are starting to see their impact on the world, and it’s our chance to show them how to become a positive influence.  Middle school is a time to stand alongside our students and develop their sense of innovation, empathy, and hope.

I am looking forward to continuing to improve our community and welcome in anyone that would like to be a contributing member of the SMS team, as a parent, community member, or staff member.  Thank you for your continued support of our students.

My Educational Mission:

I am here because, as an educational leader, I have the power to create change.  I will collaborate with staff, students and the community to develop a school that encourages both students and staff to become problem solvers, innovators, as well as socially and emotionally aware.

Jeff Chabot, Asst Principal

I am excited to be starting my 10th year here at Summit Middle School and my 24th year in the teaching profession.  I have spent all of that time teaching and working with students in Middle Schools. This age group is my passion and I enjoy getting to know as much as I can about the students and families that I get the opportunity to interact with.  I feel extraordinarily lucky to be allowed to work on a daily basis with the amazing staff, students and families that enter our building.  SMS is an amazing place to work and to send my own children. As Assistant Principal, I strive to ensure the safety and learning of all students.

My wife, Betsy Buerk, is also a teacher in the district.  She works as a reading specialist at Dillon Valley.  I have two children who attend Summit schools.

I look forward to a great school year and I encourage you to call me with any questions or concerns you may have. Please contact our Administrative Assistant at (970) 368-1226 if you'd like to schedule an appointment, or leave me a message at (970) 368-1221.

Erin Dillon, Asst Principal -  Dean of Restorative Practices

Hi SMS Tigers! I'm beyond thrilled to be a part of this learning community. Middle school is such an exciting time in the lives of our youngsters. I am blessed to be a support person for them and our families as we navigate the changes and challenges that come with adolescence. As an administrator at SMS, I spend a lot of time thinking about how to help our kids navigate our post pandemic reality. A big part of my role is related to Restorative Practices, which emphasizes relationships and repairing them when trust or respect is broken. These social, emotional and interpersonal skills are essential for a lifetime of healthy relationships. When students experience harmony in their relationships, they are able to focus on learning and higher level tasks. It's all connected! It's complex work, but exciting work. I look forward to doing it with you. It takes a village! Go Tigers.

Dr. Ross Morgan, Asst Principal - Dean of Continuous Improvement

It is my pleasure to serve your children as they continue their educational journey in middle school.  This is such an exciting time, where students get to meet friends from across the county, and explore new passions here at Summit Middle School.

Our middle school community is made stronger when all parents are able to collaborate with our teachers and staff to support our students' education.  The wonderful thing about our school is that parent engagement can take many forms from conversations with your students at home to one on one conversations with myself or their teachers to participation in groups like our Parent/Teacher/Student Organization (PTSO) or our School Accountability Committee or by volunteering.  Whatever level of involvement works for you, I look forward to hearing from you and learning from you in order to create a truly wonderful educational experience for all of our students.
